How it all began, a Painter's story
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, my Company, and say Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to provide you an estimate. My name is Michael Gatto and I am the owner of Vision Painting, Inc. I was first introduced to the painting business when I was 16 years old. In the summers of 1983 and 1984 I worked for a local painting contractor in Massachusetts. The summer following my senior year in High School I decided to start my own painting company, MSG Contracting was born (at that age I was not aware of what my initials stood for—MSG). I knocked on doors in the town that I lived in and asked people if I could paint their home. Surprisingly, people liked the idea of a young energetic kid painting their home. That summer I painted several homes, some alone and some with a helper.
I went to the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1985 and 1986. I left college in 1986. Scared I would not go back to school, my father made me pay rent and learn how tough life was. I lived in my Parent's vacation house in New Hampshire and was a ski patrol, ski instructor, bartender and of course, a painting contractor. I also washed windows!
After one year off, I applied to Babson College in Wellesley, MA but they thought it best I get back into the swing of things at a local Community College. While still painting, I went to the local Community College for one year and after getting all A’s, I re-applied to Babson College and got in. While at Babson College I interviewed and landed a job as a franchisee with one of the largest national painting companies—College Pro Painting. I worked as a College Pro Franshisee through College over the next two years. I earned several awards including Vice-Presidents award for achievement, Success Award, Manager of the year award, and the Presidents Club award.
After graduating with distinction from Babson College with an Entrepreneurial Studies degree and minors in finance and management, I looked at the job market and decided to keep painting. At this time, College Pro Painting was setting up a full-time Painting Franchise called Certa-Pro Painters to accommodate people like me who wanted to keep painting year-round and not have the College Pro name attached. I worked as a Certa- Pro franchisee for two years and then moved to Florida.
Thinking I did not want to be a painter anymore, I got my Insurance License, Series 6 and 63 licenses and worked for Metropolitan Life and then started my own company. After two years of dealing with many unscrupulous competitors, I decided it was time to go back to painting.
In 1995, an old acquaintance from Atlanta, GA called me to start a re-paint company. In the summer of 1995 Intile-Gatto Painting was formed. Intile-Gatto Painting took Atlanta by storm and set the standard for professionalism, detailed proposals, not collecting deposits or progress payments, and mass advertising. From 1995 to present, Vision Painting has painted over 8000 homes, condos, apartments, offices, and commercial projects from Chicago, IL to Naples, FL and most places in between.
In the summer of 2003, Michael Gatto became the sole owner of Intile-Gatto Painting, Inc. and as a result changed the name to Vision Painting, Inc. Vision Painting currently has an office in Suwanee, GA with 1 new office being opened in Jacksonville, FL this fall.
